London’s Ham Yard Hotel

Today I had the pleasure of having Afternoon Tea with friends and family at The Ham Yard Hotel. The Ham Yard is another amazing Kit Kemp designed Firmdale Hotel. I think it is undoubtably the jewel in Kemp’s impressive crown! All of my friends know that I am a little obsessed with Kit Kemp. I was so fortunate to meet her a few weeks ago at her Kings Road Anthropologie talk to introduce her new Folkthread collection. My cheeks actually flushed as I spoke to her, which was beyond embarrassing! During Kemp’s talk, she showed slides of the Ham Yard and gave insight into the inspiration behind her Folkthread collection. Her best advice was about the importance of staying true to your design vision. She spoke of times when someone hinted that a paint colour she was planning on using might be too bright or someone insinuated that she should stick with one pattern in a room, rather than several. Those people couldn’t  see her vision! Her advice was to stick with it and if you’re wrong, then you’re wrong! But If you change something because someone makes you doubt yourself and then it turns out to be wrong, then you’ll regret not pushing on with your vision! Back to The Ham Yard, it’s a beautiful haven of great design choices and as soon as you enter the courtyard you forget you’re a stones throw away from a very busy and chaotic Piccadilly Circus. The Afternoon Tea was lovely as usual. I’ve had Afternoon Tea at The Haymarket Hotel, The Covent Garden Hotel, and The Crosby Street Hotel. The Firmdale Collection hotels never disappoint! The Croc bowling alley is a master class in getting it right! The fact that a bowling alley can look that chic is proof that Kit Kemp and her team are interior design gold! If you’re in London, do stop by, have a look and be inspired! Disclosure: I may have an scone addiction!
